Singapore Sling

This will taste like juice, but bear in mind that the loss of use of both legs and mouth can be very much a reality when you drink these for a prolonged period.

Will make roughly 4 long drinks:

RECIPE:

INGREDIENTS:
ice (crushed in a strong plastic bag)
1 cup of gin
1/4 cup cherry brandy
1/4 cup lemon juice
soda water
slices of lime
Maraschino cherries
1 tablespoon fresh mint (roughly chopped)

DIRECTIONS:
Fill a large jug 3/4 full with ice cubes. Add the gin, brandy, lemon juice and mint and top up with soda water. Stir thoroughly. Pour into long glasses and “display” a slice of lime and a cherry on top to your best artistic ability.

    14!

I was still drinking cheap cider at that age.

This is my favourite cocktail because it was the first one I was ever introduced to – growing up in the Far East and all.
The version that Wally at the Tudor Rose Club at Berakas Army Camp used to make also contained grenadine, which would have made it a lot sweeter, and thus more appealing to a 14-year-old.
Wally used to keep smiling – and pouring – no matter how legless we became. Bless him.
